Spike at the Sydney Morning Herald: A minor flaw - If London's tabloids are to be believed, and they rarely are, it would have cost Russell Crowe $14.1 million, more than half his fortune, to make the New York "phone hurling" incident go away. That's the amount he would have had to pay the hotel clerk he allegedly hit with a phone in June, according to the Daily Mail. Sadly, there was a problem with the story. "It's not true," Crowe said via his Australian publicist.

That's why the entry is titled: "This can't be true." I'd be surprised is the actual amount even is close to half a million. It shouldn't be much more than medical expenses + a small go away and quit claim money.
