Mayor Mallory promises before finding out if he can deliver
Cincinnati's new mayor, Mark Mallory, hired a chief of staff at a salary considerably higher than authorized. However, he says it isn't a problem since she hasn't been in the job long enough to reach the current maximum salary. His excuse for not requesting authority sooner is a doozy. Basically, it's all the Bengals fault.
Mallory said the announcement of Walker's hiring was delayed a month because his office has been so busy. During that time, his staff sent out numerous press releases about the Bengals' winning season and first playoff appearance in 15 years. So, if the Bengals had sucked as usual he would have requested a change in the rules earlier? I have to throw the BS flag. He should not have promised her more than he was legally authorized to offer her.

That's the first time I've heard of a team doing well messing up the city. Well, except Detroit, where they burn the place when they win.

I'm taking that as a near-admission that this is all this was doing for a few weeks, which begs the question now that the Bengals are done: "Is this person needed at all?
