"Historian" arrested for being an idiot
I don't get this.
VIENNA, Austria (AP) - Right-wing British historian David Irving, who once famously said that Adolf Hitler knew nothing about the systematic slaughter of 6 million Jews, has been arrested in Austria on a warrant accusing him of denying the Holocaust. Irving, 67, was detained Nov. 11 in the southern province of Styria on a warrant issued in 1989 under Austrian laws making Holocaust denial a crime, police Maj. Rudolf Gollia, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said Thursday.The guy is obviously ignorant of the history he claims to be an expert on but I have a problem with charging someone for denying something happened. His denial doesn't change history anymore than my denial would change who won the American League Central this year. This reaction gives him the notoriety he craves. It would be better to laugh at him or ignore him.

I do not believe that he is actually denying the Holocaust only the numbers of victims and the methods under which many of the deaths occur. I have not read his work, but at the same time we have another revisionist trial taking place in Germany that just started last week or perhaps the week before. Ernst Zundel has been held in prison in Canada and then taken to a German prison and being tried on hate crimes for his challenging of the numbers in the Holocaust. The most important thing to note here is that people who have dedicated their life to studying the holocaust like Ernst Zundel, who was taken from his home in Pigeon Forge, TN where he resided with his wife Igrid and extradited to Canada. It is free speech that is under attack, and it could happen to any of us. I have a link on my blog to the Ernst Zundel site that one could read about this man that is highly educated, and that has been supported by statisticians and other supporters. One needs to put their self in the shoes of a German that looks at history of his own people and has given his life to set the record straight. Look at how history is rewritten on a daily basis in our United States, and how the Internet has allowed people to search for accurate information. Perfect example was the Mary Mapes/Dan Rather mishap about President Bush and his military service right before the election. I do not know what really happens with anything yesterday or today, unless I see it or hear it first-hand. Never forget that there are two sides to every story.
People were stoned and burned at stakes in the Salem Witch Trials if someone expected they may be a witch. Those that challenged years ago that the earth was not flat were ridiculed and ruined in the court of public opinion. Searching for the truth and for the correct facts should never land anyone in prison.
Gee, I practically got burned at the stake myself on another blog for pointing out things that I could prove on another blog here in Macon, GA. I even put up links for people to read!
I also challenged the conduct of a SPLOST election this year by filing a petition in Court and was ridiculed and called frivolous. It did not matter whether or not the elected officials broke the SPLOST Code in the conduct of an election and broke the law, I was the target!

No problem on the length of comments. Interesting info on Zundel. The free speech angle of the story in the main thing. They aren't prosecuting some 80 some year old guy for being a guard at a camp and doing something bad. They are prosecuting some guy for saying something with which they disagree. Makes me glad to be an American where we have well defined rights.

Well, we just had another guy Germar Rudolf that has an American wife and a young child that was denied political assylum here in the US, and deported to Germany this month, too! He is also a revisionist. Think about it, the United States will bend over backwards with the help of the ACLU and the ADL to protect the rights of someone such as the Washington DC snipers who killed at least 17 people. But, there is no help for a revisionist. One only needs to look at who is involved in the ADL and the ACLU. Actually, I have done so much research that I am having nightmares and not sleeping well. I am thinking wow, will I be arrested for having links to such information on my blogs. I am a person that enjoys the learning about the unknown, and researching. I used to be a big fan of fiction writing in my younger days, such as Sydney Sheldon's "The Master of the Game." I know that there is more to our complex world than meets the eye. And if you read my blog, you know that I am unconditionally patriotic.
