This is Outrageous
This is outrageous.
The family of a Marine who was killed in Iraq is furious with Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll for showing up uninvited at his funeral this week, handing out her business card and then saying "our government" is against the war.
The office of the Governor of Pennsylvania is entitled to take any stance it wants regarding whether the War on Terrorism is worth fighting, but a Marine's funeral is not the place to make those views known.

I just passed this on to Michelle Malkin and noted you as the source.
This is so incomprehensible I want to believe it isn't true, even though the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is a very solid paper.

First, if this occured she should apologize and resign or be impeached. But of course nothing will happen to her.
Second I disagree that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is free to take a position on the war. States of the United States are not entitled to make their own foreign policy. And it is absolutely ludicrous for a state to have a position on a war contrary to the national policy.

Tom,
Thanks for referring my post to Michelle.

Thanks, LB. I happen to agree with comment 4, in the sense that when you're at war, you either publicly support it or shut up if you don't. Any visible objections by politicians provide aid and comfort to the enemy, lengthen the war, and arguably contribute to the deaths of more of our soldiers.

Bill, The aide says it would be inappropriate to comment. Hard to believe anyone on this staff knows whats apprpriate.
