Tell your U.S. senator not to undermine the troops
Most Americans understand that our enemies listen to the public pronouncements of our political leaders for any sign that our resolve is weakening. Unfortunately, some of our senators fail to grasp that fact. Senators making open declarations that they expect our efforts in Iraq to fail is tantamount to a self-fulfilling prophesy. Here is a chance to tell them it matters to you.
9052 people have signed The Pledge thus far. Will you?
If the United States Senate passes a resolution, non-binding or otherwise, that criticizes the commitment of additional troops to Iraq that General Petraeus has asked for and that the president has pledged, and if the Senate does so after the testimony of General Petraeus on January 23 that such a resolution will be an encouragement to the enemy, I will not contribute to any Republican senator who voted for the resolution. Further, if any Republican senator who votes for such a resolution is a candidate for re-election in 2008, I will not contribute to the National Republican Senatorial Committee unless the Chairman of that Committee, Senator Ensign, commits in writing that none of the funds of the NRSC will go to support the re-election of any senator supporting the non-binding resolution.

I agree with the premise, and I am still questioning all the support the NRSC gave Chafee in 06, but in the broader picture I am not sure I am cool with this....it will lead other special interest the groups to do the same. The main goal is to win back Senate control or at a mimimum keep our seats and I dont think this helps. I dont think Senator Ensign can go along with this.

Ben,
In no way do I expect Sen. Ensign to agree to restrict where NRSC monies are spent. I just want him (and more importantly his colleagues like Hagel) to understand why they have less to waste. Chafee, as you well know, is exhibit one against giving to the NRSC and trusting they will spend the money wisely.

kWhat a dumb idea, I am not surprised you get less than 10,000 people to sign, that is less than the inbred population of your ridiculous hometown of cincitucky. Look little bill, Some people think the war is going terribly and don't feel the way you do. By painting any dissent as an us vs them mentality you will lose. By adopting this completely inflexible position, you limit the ability of a REPRESENTATIVE to listen to the views of their CONSTITUENTS. I guess you can't wrap your cornball head around this concept-that is why the R's lost both the house and the senate. This sort of blind allegiance is not the hallmark of democracy.
